Sir William lived in St Albans Hertfordsire, and was Lord Mayor of London from 1813-14. His great grandfather was Charles Domville, citizen and clothworker of London, who died in 1704, and who in turn was a grandson of William, 3rd son of William Domville of Lymm.

Sir William's baronetcy and arms were granted by ‘His present Majesty, when Prince Regent, in allusion to the dutiful, respectful and dignified manner in which, as Lord Mayor of London, he entertained His Royal Highness, the Emperor of Russia, and the King of Prussia, at a banquet in Guildhall on the 18th July 1814; in commemoration of the glorious successes which attended the arms of his Majesty, and his allies, and under the Blessings of Divine Providence, effected the deliverance of Europe.’ ('Heirloom and Howard')
